Paris for free
The capital city of France is renowned as one of the most expensive places in the world. Purchasing a square meter of land here is over 10.000 EUR and the price of a meal is around 25 EUR. So with the cost of living so high, we can only expect that the price of visiting matches these expectations – and it does…to some extent. But in part, you can visit Paris for free (or, well, almost). Let’s see what we’re talking about!
OK, so a regular coffee in Paris costs some 4 EUR… not quite free, so we’ll scratch “having coffee in a chick café off the free list. But there are places in Paris where you can go without paying anything.
1. Take a walk along the famous Champs Elysees. This stunning boulevard provides some of the most fantastic views over the city. So take your lover by the hand – or take your thoughts with yourself, if you are traveling solo – and just enjoy the exercise.
There is a considerable number of museums that allow free entry. Here are a few of them:
2. Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris was opened in 1961 and features free entry all year round. Here, you can admire over 8000 modern art pieces in the somewhat sober confines of the huge building.
3. Step back in time to the romantic age at the Musee de la Vie Romantique, housed in an 1830 mansion that recreates the atmosphere of those distant times.
4. Remember the great age of literature at the House of Balzac and at the House of Victor Hugo, both of which institutions grant free entry.
5. Admire the monumental work of Romanian-born artist Constantin Brancusi at his “Atelier” part of the Georges Pompidou Center.
And although it is not entirely free, you can get a Paris taxi transfer for a tour of the best spots in town!
